Description

No. 40 Friar Street is an early 18th-century Queen Anne building. It is roughcast and has two storeys with attics. The façade features six original flat-headed sash windows, each with 12 panes, thick bars, flush boxing, and fluted keyblocks. The central door consists of eight fielded panels and is topped by a three-light rectangular fanlight, all beneath a moulded wood hood supported by modillions. There are semi-circular steps leading to the door. The building also has six restored square-headed dormers and an old tile roof with gable ends. Nos. 36 to 44 (even) form a good group with this property.
