Description

House, now a house and shops, dating from the early 18th century, with later additions and alterations including work carried out between approximately 1876 and 1935. The building is constructed of red brick with a tile roof, featuring a tall stack on the right side with decorative oversailing courses and pots, and a cast-iron balcony. It follows a double-depth plan, with a rear range extending to Taylor’s Lane.

The exterior presents two storeys with an attic, featuring five first-floor windows. Architectural details include a three-course band at first-floor level and a further band above, along with a stepped modillion eaves band. The first floor has four outer six-over-six sash windows with near-flush frames and flat arches constructed of gauged brick. A central near-flush French casement, also with a flat gauged brick arch, opens onto a balcony with stylized foliate balusters, above which sits the hood of the central entrance. The central entrance features a renewed six-panel door with a divided overlight. Ground-floor windows have 20th-century glazing within wide, cambered-arched surrounds. A central attic dormer has a casement window. The roof tiles are laid in rows of half-round and plain tiles.

The right return has six first-floor windows. From the left, these include a rectangular oriel with casements, a tripartite window with a six-over-six sash between two two-over-two sashes, all within a near-flush frame and under a cambered arch. Subsequent windows feature sashes with margin-lights in plain reveals with elliptical arches. The ground floor has two elliptically-arched openings with keystones, a further three elliptically-arched openings, all now fitted with plate glass windows. Off-centre right and at the right end are six-panel doors. Cogged eaves run along the roofline. Three attic dormers have casement windows.

The interior was uninspected but is noted to contain a panelled room to the left of the entrance.
