Description
The North Wing Pavilion at Shire Hall is a gate lodge, likely built between 1834 and 1835 by architects Charles Day and Henry Rowe. It features ashlar stone over a brick structure with a concealed roof. The building is single storey and consists of a single bay, with a four-bay return. It has a plinth and Doric pilasters at both ends and between the bays, topped with a crowning entablature and blocking course. The windows are 6/6 sashes set in plain reveals and adorned with tooled architraves, with some having blind boxes. The entrances to the returns include a four-panel door and a part-glazed door, both with overlights, also in plain reveals and with tooled architraves. The interior has not been inspected. This pavilion is an important part of the setting of Shire Hall.
