Description

Restdale House is a house built in the late 18th century, with later alterations. It features pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond, with stucco on the ground floor that mimics ashlar stonework. The building has stone sills, bands, copings, and an architrave, topped with a plain tile roof and brick stacks at the rear with pots. It stands three storeys tall and has four first-floor windows. The first floor includes 6/6 sash windows set in plain reveals with a continuous sill band, while the second floor has 6/6 sash windows in near-flush frames with sills, all featuring flat arches made of gauged brick.

On the ground floor, there is a chamfered plinth and a central entrance accessed by three roll-edged steps leading to a six-raised-and-fielded-panel door with an overlight that has radial glazing bars. This door is framed by a doorcase with fluted composite pilasters, a dentil entablature, and a hood. The ground floor also has two tripartite windows, each with a 6/6 sash between two 2/2 sashes, all in plain reveals with sills and flat, stuccoed arches.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, in the 18th century, Foregate Street was referred to as 'the mall.' Tymbs' Worcester Guide from 1802 describes Foregate Street as well paved and broad enough to allow for a full circulation of air, making it a popular promenade. Restdale House is part of a significant group that includes the Shire Hall, the Statue of Queen Victoria, the City Museum and Library, and several consecutive numbered buildings on Foregate Street.
