Description
The building comprises two semi-detached houses, dating to around 1820, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed of painted stucco over brick, with a hipped slate roof. A brick party wall stack is present at the front and rear, incorporating oversailing courses and decorative pots. The houses have a double-depth plan with a central entrance positioned on their return elevations. They are three storeys high and feature two first-floor windows arranged in a 1:1 configuration. Stucco detailing includes pilasters to the corners and centre, a plain frieze, and sills that are lined to resemble ashlar. The windows are primarily 8/8 sash windows throughout, except on the second floor where they are 4/4. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills. The front door, located on the return elevation, features a lower pair of flush, double-beaded panels, a central and upper raised and fielded panel with a bolection moulding, a moulded door frame, and a radial pattern fanlight with segmental margin glazing. Above the door is a 6/6 sash window on the first floor and a single-light casement window on the second floor. Two-storey wings are set back behind the main entrance on both return sides; the roof of the left wing is hipped and concealed behind a parapet, while the right wing has a single-storey service range to the rear right and a two-storey service range to the rear left.
The listed buildings within Britannia Square form a unified group, initiated in 1820 and planned around a large green. The design is comparable to other developments in Worcester, such as Lansdowne Crescent, Lark Hill, and Rainbow Hill Terrace.
