Description
This is a pair of matching houses, part of a terrace, now used as a restaurant, offices, and residential accommodation. The houses date from the early 19th century and have undergone later additions and alterations. They are constructed of red brick with painted stone detailing, and have a hipped slate roof partly hidden by a parapet.
The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan, with entrances on the left and right. They are four storeys high and have six windows on the first floor, divided into a 3:3 arrangement. The stone detailing includes a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, a blocking course, capped keystones, window sills, and steps leading to the entrances and door cases. There is also a plinth at the base of the buildings. The windows are 6/6 sashes, except those on the third floor which are 3/3. The windows are set in plain reveals with sills and gauged flat brick arches. The entrance doors are six-panel doors, with the upper four panels raised and fielded and the lower two panels flush-beaded. They are framed by open pediment door cases with plain reveals. The left-hand entrance is more deeply recessed than the one on the right, and both have petal-pattern fanlights above. The ground floor on the left-hand side is painted render and terminates just below the first-floor sill level with a plain band. The interior has not been inspected.
