Description
Lodge Farm Barn and Crucks Barn is an 18th-century barn that incorporates some remains of a 17th-century or earlier building. The structure features weatherboarded timber-framing and a tiled roof. On the north-east wall, there is a lean-to addition to the left of the cart entrance, and to the right, a doorway with a pitching hole above it.
Inside, the barn consists of four bays. The north-west gable wall is made of brick. To the south, there is a pair of crucks with light scantling, where the tie-beam has been removed. The blades are joined by a collar below the apex and have outriders. The next truss to the south has crucks truncated above a tie-beam, which supports a tie-beam truss that includes a collar, vertical struts, and V-struts. The third truss features a tie-beam and raking struts. The south-east gable wall has long straight braces along with a tie-beam, collar, and vertical struts. The walls are framed with vertical struts intended for weatherboarding, although much of the timber is re-used. The northern part of the south-west wall includes two curved tension braces, while the opposite wall has a blocked wooden mullioned window.
