Description
The Manor House is a house dating back to the medieval period, significantly remodelled in the 16th and 17th centuries, with further extensions and alterations in the late 18th or early 19th century and again in the late 19th century. The building is constructed from timber framing and brick, with tile roofs, and presents an irregular plan. The south front is faced with 19th-century brick. The right-hand side features two gabled bays, the right-hand one being lower, with windows having segmental heads and a gabled porch sheltering the front door in the left-hand bay. To the left, a lower range of brick is visible, divided into two builds, with three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor, the right-hand ground-floor window being enlarged in the 20th century. A door is situated between the ground-floor windows. Chimneys are positioned to the left and right, and at the junction between the lower range and the main house.
At the rear, the timber framing is exposed. The trusses of the two gables of the main house display collars and tie-beams. A parallel wing extends northwards from the lower range, incorporating a similar truss with vertical struts and V-struts above the collar.
Inside the left-hand (west) room of the main house are deeply chamfered exposed ceiling beams, alongside an 18th-century cupboard framed by fluted pilasters with triglyphs. Two early staircases are present, one partially dating to circa 1600, along with other original interior joinery. The hall also has deeply chamfered beams. A pair of crucks are visible on the first floor. In the right-hand wing of the first floor, a curved wind-brace, principal post, and cambered tie-beam are exposed.
