Description

The War Memorial Bus Shelter is situated on the west side of the Barnard's Green roundabout, oriented north-south. It features a rectangular plan with a semicircular end at the south and a rectangular clock tower at the north.

The front elevation facing the road has three large open bays that provide access to the shelter, with the clock tower set back on the right side. A modern plaque to the right of the bays reads: 'BECAUSE THE WAR TO END ALL WARS DIDN'T'. The clock tower has a simple square clock face framed in black, with a circular ring of line markers instead of numbers. The upper section of the tower has square cut-away corners and projecting horizontal fins on the right side, below which the shaft of the tower features a vertical row of projecting squares. The southern semicircular elevation is recessed from the front of the shelter and includes a strip of five windows with recessed panels adorned with applied poppy details. The north elevation of the clock tower also has two recessed panels with similar decorations. Both the main structure and the clock tower have overhanging flat roofs edged in dark green paint, while the rest of the exterior is painted cream.

Inside, the shelter is painted black and has a tiled floor. It contains three rows of modern seats in red and green. A brass plaque with poppy decorations is inscribed with the following: 'BARNARDS GREEN WAR MEMORIAL / 1939-1945 / DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF THE MEN / WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE / IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM / AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING / WE WILL REMEMBER THEM'.
