Description
Malvern St James College, originally known as the Imperial Hotel, was built in 1860 by E.W. Elmslie. It was one of the first railway hotels in England to be lit by incandescent gas and featured various types of baths, with brine specially transported by rail from Droitwich.
The building is four storeys tall with attics, constructed of red brick and stone dressings, topped with a banded slate roof. Architectural features include paired and single windows, a three-storey oriel window with a candle-snuffer roof, and a tower with a pierced parapet. The windows have segmental heads and carved ornaments on the cills, and there are moulded strings between the storeys. The roof features seven dormers with pointed gables, and the doorway is adorned with an arched dripmould that has mask stops.
