Description
The Owl House, located at the south end of the lake in Croome Park, is an alcove seat or viewing temple built around 1766 by Robert Adam. The front is made of Bath stone, while the side and rear walls are constructed of brick. The original slate roof has collapsed. The building has a square plan and features a pedimented stone front with a large arched opening. This pediment is supported by two giant attached columns with acanthus leaf capitals. The archway is flanked by Roman Doric columns in antis and has a moulded architrave. The interior is plastered and originally included semi-domes on each side, which are now lost. There is a drawing of the structure at the Soane Museum, and it is referenced in the Transactions of the Worcestershire Archaeological Society from 1976.
