Description

The South Lodge and gate pier at the north-west gate of Hewell Park is an early 19th-century structure, likely designed by Thomas Cundy Senior. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a hipped slate roof. The building consists of two rectangular blocks connected by a smaller block, with a porch on the north (carriageway) side. The street-facing side has one storey, a moulded cornice, and a parapet. Each block has a window with a glazing bar sash, topped by a pediment and a blind balustrade below. There are blind walls between the two blocks, which also feature semi-circular headed niches on either side. The entrance on the left return front includes two Doric columns and a half-glazed door. The gate pier has a square plan and is connected to the lodge by a plain overthrow.
