Description

This is a circa 1600 timber-frame building, originally two bays wide, with the northern two bays later rebuilt in brick during the 18th century. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, the eaves were raised and the front was brick-faced, and is now painted. The roof is tiled, with a decorative brick dentil eaves course. The building has two storeys, and number 27, at the north end, includes an attic with a higher roofline. It has a five-window front, with casement windows containing glazing bars, most of which have segmental brick arches. A vehicular access is present at number 27. A large brick stack is centrally located on the original timber-framed section. A circa 18th-century gabled wing extends from the rear.

Inside, the central stack features a fireplace on the ground floor with a curved bressumer, and another fireplace on the first floor containing a carved medieval beam. There is also a chamfered ceiling beam with a carved stop. This building holds group value as an example of a timber-framed building with later brick alterations.
