Description
Hayes Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with additions from the mid-19th century and alterations from the mid-20th century. It is constructed of handmade brick, with some areas rendered and painted, and features a plain tiled roof that has a massive ridge stack and a west end ridge stack. The original part of the farmhouse consists of 2½ bays aligned east to west and includes a large external chimney at the west end, which is enclosed by a single-bay addition that continues the main roof ridge.
The building is single storey with an attic that has dormers, and there is a two-course band at attic level. On the north front elevation, the ground floor has two 3-light casement windows and a rectangular light with metal bars to the left. There are three 20th-century gabled dormers with 2-light casements, and a ledged and battened door to the right in the later addition. The attic lights are located in the gable ends. Inside, the hall features stop-chamfered main ceiling beams, and there is a large fireplace in the central bay. The half-bay at the west end was formerly a dairy, and there is a 19th-century single-storey addition at the west end.
