Description
22 Lichfield Street is a former shop, now used as a shop and studio, dating from around 1820. The building is constructed of plastered brick with thin timbers that give it a timber-framed appearance, and it features a tiled roof with a brick stack at one end. It stands three stories tall and has a four-window range. The shop front was updated in the 20th century, while the upper windows are fitted with casements that have leaded glazing; the first-floor windows likely replaced original sash windows. The side of the building has a shop front to the left of the entrance, which includes an aedicule, cabled composite flat pilasters, and a pediment. Above the entrance, there is a round-headed stair window with a consoled archivolt and keystone, along with small-paned glazing, and a top leaded casement. Inside, there is a staircase with column-on-vase balusters and some flashed and etched glass in the stair window. This building was formerly the offices of the Commissioners for Bilston before the establishment of elected local government representatives.
