Description

The fountain in St. Peter's Gardens, built in 1894, is constructed of ashlar stone on a granite base. It features a round granite base and pool with roll-moulded coping. The fountain stands on a hexagonal plinth adorned with six dolphins that support a round gadrooned bowl, which has an inscription commemorating its erection. The shaft is decorated with leaves, masks, and figures of children, all supporting another round bowl that serves as the fountain head. This fountain was erected in memory of Philip Horsman, a generous benefactor to the town, who also contributed to the adjacent Art Gallery.
