Description
The Harris Memorial, located in St. Peter's Gardens on Lichfield Street in Wolverhampton, is a memorial built between 1917 and 1919. It features a bust created by R.J. Emerson and is made of ashlar stone with a bronze bust and plaques. The memorial has a battered square plinth and a stele, which includes projections on the sides with inscriptions at the tops and caps that have undulating lines. The bust represents a sailor wearing a cap band from H.M.S. Admirable. The front plaque commemorates the heroic death of Able Seaman Harris, depicting him slumped in the wireless room of the ship, while the rear plaque contains an inscription in Italian. Harris was killed in the Adriatic Sea while staying at his post in the wireless room on the damaged drifter Floandi.
