Description

The Museum and Art Gallery Annexe, originally the Municipal School of Art, was built in the 1870s. It is constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a tiled roof with brick stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range and a rounded angle that includes a round turret. Architectural details include ashlar sill bands, enriched brick impost courses, a top ashlar flush band, and a cornice, along with coped gables on the dormers.

The ground floor has four segmental-headed windows, while the first floor and dormers feature round-headed windows, all fitted with casements. The central entrance is segmental-headed and has a recessed panelled door. The turret at the angle is corbelled out on an enriched ashlar base, with straight-headed lights on the first and second floors beneath ashlar lintel bands, topped with a conical roof.

On Wulfruna Street, the building has a seven-window range with similar details; the entrance has been converted into a window, and there is a blind window on the ground floor that features an enriched ashlar panel with an inscription in a quatrefoil design. The building also has five gabled dormers, gable-end stacks, and three cross-axial stacks, all with oversailing courses. The interior has not been inspected.
