Description

A terrace of six houses, now offices, likely built around 1850. The buildings are constructed of stuccoed brick with ashlar dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof. They follow a double-depth plan and have three storeys, presenting a twelve-window front. A first-floor sill course and modillioned eaves are prominent features, with the two bays at each end projecting forward, featuring channelled rustication to the ground floor and quoins above. The windows have architraves; those on the ground floor are tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, while those on the first floor have friezes, cornices and plaster gables, casements, and cast-iron balconies. Second-floor windows have eared architraves and nine-pane sash windows. Specific variations exist among the houses: number 22 lacks glazing bars on its ground floor window, number 24 is without glazing bars on its ground and second floor windows, number 26 features a fanlight with decorative glazing bars, and number 30 has a casement window on the ground floor and small-paned casements on the second floor. A plaque centred on the first floor reads "CLAREMONT / TERRACE". The doorways are round-headed, with plaster surrounds, consoled cornices, recessed doors, and fanlights. Five cross-axial stacks are present, two of which have been truncated. The rear of the terrace is brick-built with varied wings and fenestration. The interior has not been inspected.
