Description

Beards Monument, located approximately 10 meters north of the Church of St Leonard in Bilston, is a Grade II listed structure commemorating George Beards (died 1817), his daughter Maria (died 1817), and his wife Maria (died 1828). The monument is made of ashlar and features a square plinth on a moulded base, which has recessed rounded angles adorned with imbricated mouldings. The top frieze is decorated with a palm leaf motif and is capped with a moulded element. Inscriptions are displayed in oval panels surrounded by a husk border, with lower panels featuring concave corners. The angles of the monument are embellished with cherubs, hour glasses, and snakes.
