Description

Prospect House is an office building located in Wolverhampton, originally serving as the office of the Wolverhampton District Electric Tramways Ltd. It was constructed in 1902 and features a right-angle plan with brick and terracotta dressings, topped by a parapetted roof. The building is two storeys high with a gable facing the street.

Notable architectural features include a plinth, a brick frieze, and a dentilled terracotta cornice above the ground floor. The top of the building has a terracotta frieze, cornice, and a terracotta-coped brick ramped parapet with a gable that includes a keyed roundel. The end pilasters are rusticated and topped with scrolls.

The windows are designed with rusticated jambs and sashes, featuring small-paned upper sashes. The ground floor includes a segmental-headed window with imposts and a keystone, while the first floor has a tripartite window. The entrance is segmental-headed with rusticated jambs and a brick rusticated cambered arch, complete with an overlight and a six-panel door. Above the ground floor, there is a frieze that displays the initials "WDET" and a wheel within a magnet.

The right return of the building is similar in design, featuring an entrance, a first-floor tripartite window, and flanking windows. The Wolverhampton District Tramways Ltd electrified the existing horse tramway routes in the area, and the site originally included offices, a transformer station (which remains but has been much altered), and repair and paint shops (now demolished). The depot was later converted for trolley bus use between 1928 and 1930 and closed in 1965.
