Description

Wisemore House is a house built around 1830, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a slate hipped roof with deep eaves. The house has two rendered stacks on the left side. The layout consists of a single-depth plan with principal rooms on either side of a central entrance passage, and a single-storey service wing set back on the left side.

The exterior is three storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay south front. The centre of the first and second floors is blind, while the windows consist of 12-pane sashes with cornices on console brackets on the first floor. The second floor windows are smaller, without cornices, and the lower sash lacks glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two large canted bay windows with sash windows that have glazing bars and pilastered frames. The central doorway features engaged Tuscan columns, a rectangular overlight with glazing bars, and a panelled door, with the top panels being glazed later. The roofs of the bays extend over the centre to form a porch.

To the left, there is a single-storey wing with a gable-ended roof. The interior of Wisemore House appears to be largely intact, showcasing original joinery, including panelled doors, cupboards, window shutters, and chimneypieces with grates. The ceilings are adorned with moulded plaster cornices, acanthus ceiling roses, and an arch over the hall passage supported by acanthus consoles. The kitchen features panelled walls and a settle.

Wisemore House was the residence of John Brewer, a coal and lime master, timber merchant, and the mayor of Walsall from 1865 to 1897.
