Description

This pillar box, located on Dog Kennel Lane in Solihull, dates from around 1857 and was created for the Birmingham District of the General Post Office. It is made of cast iron and features a fluted column that tapers towards the top, resting on a moulded base. The top is moulded with a shallow cone and has a band that is marked with "VR" and "POST OFFICE," along with royal crests. There is a horizontal aperture located below. The pillar box was manufactured by Smith and Hawkes Ironfoundry on Broad Street in Birmingham.
