Description
The Clock Tower attached to Hampton Manor is a Grade II* listed building completed in 1872, designed by W.E. Nesfield. This Gothic-style clock tower is constructed of ashlar stone and features a slate pyramidal roof with a lantern. It has three stages and an octagonal plan, with projecting stairs leading to a turret on the right. The entrance is a pointed arch doorway accessed by a flight of steps, followed by two-light cusped windows on the second stage. The third stage has two tall lancet windows and four clock faces, three of which have finely carved panels depicting signs of the zodiac. A cornice and decorative gargoyles support the octagonal roof, which is adorned with three elaborate wooden dormers and a finely detailed open lantern topped with a finial. Inside, there is an open spiral staircase, and the clock mechanism and bell are still intact. Although the clock tower is attached to Hampton Manor, it has a separate entrance.
