Description
Dudley Castle is a Grade I listed building located on Castle Hill. It features limestone facing with reddish sandstone and dates back to the 14th century, showcasing an oblong keep with semi-circular towers at the corners. The castle includes a 14th-century barbican and curtain walls, as well as a 16th-century hall that retains remains of 8-light transomed mullions. There is also a chapel with an undercroft and remnants of minor structures such as kitchens on the opposite side of the upper bailey. The castle was visited by Queen Elizabeth I and remained inhabited until 1750, when it was destroyed by fire.
