Description
Holbeche House, built around 1600 and largely refaced in the early 19th century, is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed of stucco. It features three bays, with the sides projecting and topped with Dutch gables. The façade includes five windows with rustic glazing and hood moulds, an arched rusticated porch, two dormers, early 19th-century stacks, and one restored stack with diagonal brick shafts, all covered with old tiles. Inside, the original fabric remains, including notable panelling in the ground floor room at the north-west corner.
This house is historically significant as it is directly linked to the Gunpowder Plot. It was the home of Stephen Littleton and served as the last refuge for the conspirators, where their leader, Robert Catesby, was killed and others were arrested.
