Description

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is a parish church dated 1764, located on Dudley Road in Himley. The building features cement rendering that mimics ashlar stonework and has a plain tile roof with coped verges. It includes a west tower, a two-bay nave, a single-bay chancel, and a south-east vestry. The design is simple and classical, with most windows featuring keyed semi-circular arches that spring from imposts and contain leaded lights.

The west tower is marked by bands and has a coved parapet band along with a plain parapet. The west door is distinguished by a raised key, and the upper two stages of the tower have louvred windows. A datestone is situated above the west window of the second stage.

Inside, the nave and chancel are defined by pilaster strips at the corners and where they meet. The east window projects canted with a hipped roof, and the vestry has a pedimented gable. The interior features a panelled and gracefully curved west gallery supported by slim iron columns, accessed by a staircase with stick balusters.

Notable fittings include a 19th-century stone font with a hexagonal basin on a cylindrical pedestal adorned with a stiff leaf capital, an 18th-century wooden pulpit with panelled sides, a brass angel lectern from 1894, and a simple classical rood screen and communion rail, both with turned balusters.

A monument to Viscountess Ednam, created in 1930 by Sir W. Reid Dick, depicts a young woman carrying a child on her shoulder. The east window features stained glass depicting Jesus as the good shepherd, installed after 1903.
