Description
The Church of St Stephen, built between 1870 and 1871 by architects Martin and Chamberlain, is a modest-sized suburban church located on Serpentine Road in Selly Park. Constructed of sandstone in a Decorated style, it features a tall nave without aisles and a steeply pitched decorative tile roof, along with an apsidal chancel. The church has a tower on the south side towards the west end, which ramps up to the porch and is topped with a prominent broached spire. The interior is designed in a low church style with brick facing and a scissor truss roof. The shallow chancel retains its original freely handled Gothic cast iron altar rails. The church is situated prominently on a hillside.
