Description
Cole Hall Farmhouse is a building probably originating from the 17th century, which may have initially been half-timbered but was recased and remodelled in the early to mid-18th century. It is two storeys tall with an attic and constructed of red brick. The farmhouse features a steep gable end roof covered with clay tiles and has flanking chimney stacks. There are three dormers, with the central one being gabled and the others having hip roofs.
The front of the house has five bays, which were originally symmetrical. There are brick plat bands above the ground and first floors, along with a dentil brick course at the eaves. The ground floor has four windows, one of which is only two panes wide, while the first floor has four windows and one blank bay. The left-hand windows are set closer together. All windows are sashes in flush frames, with glazing bars on the first floor only, and are positioned under slightly cambered brick arches.
Inside, the staircase runs the full height of the house and is in a contemporary style, although it may have been largely reconstructed in the early 20th century. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey southeast wing that is partly pebbledashed and features casement windows. There is also a nearly detached two-storey northeast wing that is almost as tall as the main house, constructed of brick with a plat band. The southwest gable end has exposed purlin ends, suggesting that the structure may partly have a timber-frame origin.
