Description
The remains of the Church of St Thomas, built between 1826 and 1829 by architects Rickman and Hutchinson, are located on Bath Row in Lee Bank. Only the west front of the church still stands. It features tall Ionic quadrant porticos on either side of a projecting tower, with a plain entablature that extends across the lower part of the two-stage tower. The first stage is rectangular, adorned with columns and a pediment on each face, while the second stage is a simple octagon topped with a metal arrangement that resembles a cross, visible from all four cardinal directions and from above. At the back, or east side, the remains are supported by a shelter-like structure with two columns, which was built in connection with the creation of the adjacent garden in 1955 to commemorate the Coronation.
