Description

Nos. 2 and 3 Great Hampton Street are a pair of two-bay houses dating from the 1840s to 1850s. Originally designed as shops with floors above, the upper floors were later adapted for use as workshops. The building is constructed of red brick with flat, gauged brick arches over the sash windows. The window sills are block stucco, and the first-floor windows have stucco surrounds incorporating consoles that support cornices with pediment blocking courses. A stucco bed mould runs along the main frieze, terminating in projecting, boxed flat eaves. The roof is slate, with a central chimney stack. The shop fronts share a common fascia, flanked by double console brackets. The shop front of No. 2 retains cambered arches over the windows and the central entrance.
