Description
The Cottage is a building located on Richmond Road, dating from the 18th century but likely originating in the 17th century and has undergone alterations. It features a timber frame with rendered brick and a stone tile roof. The structure is two storeys high and consists of two bays. The ground floor has two windows, each with two lights, while the first floor has two five-light windows. All windows are adorned with stone mullions and surrounds, and there is a brick dentil frieze. To the left, there is a single-storey extension that includes a door and a two-light mullioned window leading to the hall. Inside, the hall is paneled with wood said to have come from Witley Court, featuring some panels from the 17th century and others from the 19th century. This panelling incorporates the initials H H and the date 1888, along with a shield of arms for E M N E and the motto 'Honor virtutis Praemium'. At the back, a modern extension contains three 18th-century windows with intersecting Y-tracery in iron, reportedly sourced from Quinton toll house.
