Description
Lock Number 1, also known as the Top Lock, is a lock on the Tame Valley Canal, built between 1841 and 1844. It features a brick chamber and wing walls topped with stone copings. The lock has a single wooden top gate equipped with two sets of mechanical ground paddle gearing. There is a brick heel grip platform and double wooden bottom gates, each with a single set of mechanical gate paddle gearing, along with two brick heel grip platforms. Additionally, the lock includes a set of original ladders with iron rungs located on the bottom wing walls, and the wing walls are fitted with iron rubbing curbs.
