Description

East Lodge is a mid-19th century lodge designed by architect John George Jackson, located in Jephson Gardens, Royal Leamington Spa. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with scored stucco facades, some of which are painted, and features ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof. It is designed in an Old English style with a cross-shaped plan.

The exterior is a single-storey structure with a three-window range. The entrance is located on the left side of a projecting solid porch, which is accessed by four steps leading to a four-centred arch with a moulded surround. There is a solid baluster beside the steps, topped with an octagonal post and ball finial. Inside the porch, there is a part-glazed, long-panel door with a four-centre-arched shape, set in a double-chamfered surround, and a decorative tile floor.

In front of the porch, there is a narrow fixed-light window with a chamfered surround, sill, and a hollow-moulded hood. The gable of the porch features decorative bargeboards. To the left of the porch is another fixed-light window with a chamfered surround and sill. To the right, there is a canted bay with two 2/4 fixed-light casements separated by a mullion, positioned between two 2/4 lights.

The roof is adorned with four pairs of tall ornamental ridge stacks, decorative ridge tiles, and fish-scale roof tiles. On the left return, there is a rectangular bay with three 2/4 fixed-light 'mullion' windows, each with half lights on the sides and a chamfered sill. The right return features a triple 1/2 fixed-light 'mullion' window with a chamfered surround and sill, a hollow-moulded hood, and a gable with bargeboards that include modillions.

The interior has not been inspected. East Lodge is included as part of a significant planned urban park.
