Description
Moss House is a three-storey house built around the second quarter of the 19th century, constructed from ashlar stone. The front of the house is symmetrical with three windows, separated by two simple reeded pilasters. To the right, there is an additional one-window bay with a single pilaster at the corner. The house features a plain projecting plinth and a string band at the first floor level.
A stone portico with Doric pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice leads to a segmental-headed entrance that has a moulded archivolt. The entrance is adorned with an ornamental fanlight and glazed doors. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and plain reveals. Some openings to the left and above the doorway have been blocked up, and an additional window has been inserted beneath the right-hand pilaster, which is only two storeys high.
The house has a similar three-storey, three-window elevation facing Bowling Green Street, featuring a door and fanlight in plain reveals. A simple cornice runs along the eaves, and the low-pitched hipped roof is covered with Welsh slates, also featuring a cornice. The pilasters are panelled, with a double pilaster positioned right of centre. Moss House was formerly St Paul's Vicarage and retains a fine Regency staircase and chimney pieces.
