Description

Nos. 6 and 8 Church Street date from the late 18th century, with a stucco front applied at that time. The building is two storeys and has attics, presenting a three-window facade with a central blocked doorway above the entrance. Window detailing differs between the two properties: No. 8 has a ground floor window without glazing bars, while No. 6 features a three-light sash window within a shallow, segmental-headed panel, originally embellished with an Adam-style “fan” design. A string course runs along the sill level of the first floor. Identical, fluted doorcases flank the entrances, each with a semi-circular fanlight. No. 6 has a six-fielded-panelled door. A moulded cornice extends across the building, topped by a blocking course behind which are three simple dormers in the roof, clad with old tiles. Nos. 6 and 8, together with the other listed buildings on the east side of Church Street, form a group of buildings of group value.
