Description
The bandstand, built in the late 19th century, features later repairs and was commissioned by William de Normanville, who served as the Borough Engineer and Surveyor of Leamington from 1882 to 1917. It is constructed from sandstone, concrete, cast iron, and timber, topped with a lead roof. The structure has an octagonal shape with a stepped base and an ovolo-moulded upper stage. There are four steps leading to the entrance, which is framed by octagonal piers topped with ball finials. The balustrade features a close lattice-and-circle motif and a shaped handrail, which is interrupted at the angles by slender piers adorned with acanthus capitals. At the capital level, there is a cornice designed for awnings. The capitals support decorative consoles, a frieze, and a tent canopy that has a low overhang. From the edge of the canopy, at alternate piers, hang four swan-necked lamps. The central pole is topped with a finial that has a splayed and fluted base, a ball, and a spire.
