Description

Claremont House is a house dating from the late 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the early 20th century. The house has a timber frame with lath and plaster infill, and later brick additions. It is mostly covered in roughcast and imitation ashlar render with rendered quoins. The roofs are covered in concrete tiles, and there are external stacks made of brick and lias. The house is arranged in an L-shape, with a wing to the rear.

The main front has two floors and a two-window front. A gabled entrance features an early 20th-century six-panelled door within a moulded wooden surround, and a canted bay window to the left. Casement windows, dating to the early 20th century, are also present. A gable is visible. The return side facing Alcester Road has a large central external stack constructed of regular coursed lias, with three square shafts of thin bricks incorporating V-pilasters. A two-storey wood mullioned and transomed canted bay window sits to the left, while casement windows are on the right.

Inside, a room behind the external stack displays exposed timber framing, an altered open fireplace, and broad stop-chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. Similar beams are found in another room. The first floor is reportedly also characterised by exposed timber framing.
