Description
Armscote House, barn, and attached shelter and stable block are a range of outbuildings located approximately 3 to 15 meters east of the house. These structures date back to the 17th century, with some alterations and additions made in the early 20th century. They are built from squared, coursed limestone and feature quoins. The roofs are a mix of thatch and tile, with one ashlar stack on the barn and a coped gable on the right side.
The barn consists of about six bays and has a large opening with 20th-century plank doors, along with another doorway to the left. Between these, there is a 20th-century wood mullioned window. Extending forward from the left side of the barn is a loose box and shelter, which has three bays. The shelter features a stable door with a new wood lintel, and its roof is supported by a 20th-century stone pillar alongside a wooden post. There is a studded partition between the shelter and an archway, which is covered by an early 20th-century timber-framed gable.
To the left is the stable block, which has approximately three bays, a later stable door, and early 20th-century wood mullioned windows. A 20th-century dormer is present on both the shelter and stable block. Inside, the original trenched purlin roof includes collars and struts between the tie beam and principal rafters, although the common rafters have been replaced.
