Description

This building is a former manorial court house, now serving as a farm building, located approximately 30 meters southwest of Court Farmhouse. It features a datestone from 1671, likely indicating an extension to an earlier building from the 16th century. The structure is constructed from coursed blue lias rubble with some ashlar dressings, and includes timber framing with plastered infill on the north side, as well as a 19th-century brick lean-to outshut on the south.

On the exterior, the south elevation has the outshut with a projecting stack that covers two blocked openings. To the right, there is a blocked entrance with quoins and an inserted shuttered opening. The east end features a plinth on the right half and a window with a small-paned casement in the gable, which has the datestone inscribed: NISI DNS/ IN VAN/ 1671. The west end is open below a weatherboarded gable, showcasing two round-headed openings. The north elevation displays close-studded framing.

Inside, the building has a two-bay roof with a tie beam truss supported by struts, and plastered infill flanking the entrance leading up a ladder to the loft over the eastern half. The roof includes riven rafters, trenched purlins, and wind braces. The loft is supported by a broadly chamfered beam with stop chamfers that does not extend to the east end, and some of the joists are also stop-chamfered. A wooden winder stair is located at the north-east angle. Traditionally, this building served as the court house for the manorial court leet.
