Description
The War Memorial in Ryton on Dunsmore is a stone cross featuring a sword in relief, set on a slender, tapering octagonal shaft. This shaft stands atop a square plinth with a chamfered top and a moulded bottom, which is supported by a three-stepped base. On the north-eastern face, there is an early 21st-century rectangular granite tablet with incised lettering highlighted in gold, listing the names of the 18 men who died in World War I.
Erected around 1920, the memorial commemorates the men from the village who lost their lives during World War I. It is prominently located in front of the village hall at the junction of the High Street and the main A45, directly opposite the parish church of St Leonard. In approximately 2002, a new tablet was added to the memorial to include the names of the fallen.
