Description

The stable block at Packington Hall, now used as an office, was built between 1762 and 1766 by either William or David Hiorne for the 3rd Earl of Aylesford. The building features buff sandstone ashlar on the front and stucco on the rear, topped with a low pitch slate roof that has pyramidal roofs on the corner towers. It has a moulded main cornice made of stone and is arranged around a courtyard plan with square corner towers.

The east front consists of nine bays, highlighted by a pedimented Tuscan Doric recessed portico. The doorway has a moulded stone architrave with a cornice supported by console brackets, and the reveals are panelled, although the current doors are late 20th-century glazed double doors. The first floor features late 20th-century 12-pane hung sashes, while the ground floor has larger 12-pane hung sashes. The corner towers have raised surrounds for the first-floor hung sashes and a Venetian window at ground level with a pedimented centre light. The courtyard is enclosed by red brick walls, which include seven recessed round-headed bays on each wall, with the central bay being pedimented.
