Description
The Tudor Solarium is a house that has been converted into shops and a solarium, forming part of a row of buildings. It dates from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The exterior is roughcast, likely over timber-framing, and features a plain-tile roof with two gables, jettied over No. 15 on the right. A large central stack made of thin bricks has two square shafts with pilaster strips. The building has a double-depth plan and is two storeys high, with a three-window range.
The central entrance consists of a plank door set in a moulded wood surround. No. 17, located on the left, has a central 20th-century half-glazed door, an old overlight, and two early 19th-century canted shop windows with glazing bars. The first floor of No. 17 features a 20th-century cross window. No. 15 has a late 19th-century shop front that includes a half-glazed four-panelled door, a shop window, and a cornice with brackets that extends across the central doorway. The first floor of No. 15 has two four-pane sash windows. Inside, the building has chamfered beams, and No. 17 contains a former open fireplace with a moulded cornice towards the rear.
