Description

The Old Grammar School is a disused grammar school located on Church Hill in Colehill. It was built in the late 18th century and has 19th-century extensions. The building is constructed of red brick and features a hipped plain tile roof with a brick valley stack. The main block is aligned east-west and faces south, with extensions to the east. It stands three storeys tall and includes a first-floor band and a dentilled eaves band, with indications that the second floor may have been added later.

The main block has five bays, with boarded-up windows that were formerly glazing bar sashes, each topped with gauged brick heads. To the right, there is an obliquely set extension wing that is two storeys high and also has five bays, with boarded-up windows and gauged brick heads. In front of the right-hand bay, there is a roughly square, two-storey extension with a hipped roof.

The ground floor features a 20th-century door with a boarded-up overlight at the angle with the main block. On the left side of the main block, there are two bays of sixteen-pane glazing bar sashes on the first floor, while the other windows are boarded up. There is a 19th-century central bay window on the ground floor to the left, which occupies the position of a former sash; the gauged head of this sash remains. Additionally, to the left of the bay window, there is a blocked 18th-century doorway, also with a gauged brick head. The interior has not been inspected.
