Description
The flight of steps, dating from around 1850, is located approximately 10 metres southeast of the southeast terrace at Merevale Hall. Constructed from sandstone ashlar, the steps consist of a flight of four steps leading to a half landing, followed by a further flight of thirteen steps, all featuring kerbs. At the top of the steps, there are pedestals on each side that support white stone vases with handles shaped like paired bearded heads and fluted feet. These vases were purchased from Drayton Manor in Staffordshire around 1926. The steps are part of a formal layout designed by W.A. Nesfield around 1850 and are included for their group value.
