Description
This is a retaining wall built in the early 19th century, located approximately 9 metres south west of the stables at Alton Park. The wall is constructed of ashlar stone with edged herringbone tooling. It features a parapet string and a crenellated parapet, with square turret-like projections that highlight the towers of the stables. The wall serves as the north eastern end of the boating lake and acts as a retaining wall for the carriageway in front of the stables. This structure is part of the significant garden layout at Alton Towers, which is recognized as Grade I on the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Gardens Register, and it is included for its group value.
