FARLEY C.P. ALTON PARK Retaining wall approximately 9 metres south west of the stables

(Formerly listed as Retaining wall approximately 10 yards south west of the stables)

GV II Wall. Early C19. Ashlar with edged herringbone tooling. Parapet string and crenellated parapet; square turret-like projections opposite and emphasizing the towers of the stables (q.v.). The wall forms the north eastern termination of the boating lake and acts as a retaining wall to the carriageway in front of the stables (q.v).

This item forms part of the important garden layout at Alton Towers (q.v.) which is included at Grade I on the HBMC Gardens Register. Included for group value.
