Description

The Prospect Tower, along with the wall and railings to the south, is an observation tower built around 1824 by Robert Abraham. It is constructed of painted ashlar and cast iron and features an octagonal plan with Gothic details. The tower has three stages that recede in diameter from the bottom to the top. The two lower stages include an outer arcade with four-centred arches supported by banded and clustered shafts. The upper stage is adorned with pointed windows beneath pointed hoods that spring from paired shafts at each corner, topped with an ogee glass dome featuring cast iron tracery.

Additionally, there is approximately a 10-yard length of ashlar wall topped with low cast iron railings that have Gothic arcading, located 3 yards south of the Prospect Tower. This structure is part of the significant garden layout at Alton Towers, which is recognized as Grade I on the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission Garden Register.
