Description

Hall House is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of coursed and dressed rubble and features a stone slate roof, with a brick stack at the left end and a ridge stack on the right. The building has an 'L'-shaped plan and was originally designed with a through passage.

The front of the house is two stories high and divided into two parts. To the right is a projecting gabled wing that has large ashlar quoins and gable edging. There is a two-light casement window on the first floor set to the left, and a stone surround that is now partially blocked, indicating that a window was extended to the right and was originally central under the apex. The left side has a set-back wing with a low mid-19th century lean-to against the left end.

On the first floor, there is a three-light stone chamfered mullioned window partially over the right side of the lean-to, and a centrally placed blocked two-light chamfer mullioned window above the ground floor. The ground floor features three two-light windows, all with chamfered reveals showing evidence of mullions. There is an enlarged window next to the lean-to on the left, positioned under the blocked window in the center and adjacent to the projecting wing on the right, with a boarded entrance door to the left of the right-hand window. The differing stone coursing suggests several phases of construction.

Inside, there is a timber-framed partition from the through passage located behind the right side of the door, which was being removed at the time of the last survey in September 1984. A stone wall is present to the left, and the rear door has been blocked.
