Description

The Cross Cottage is a house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of finely coursed dressed and squared Hollington sandstone, with a tiled roof, verge parapets, and end stacks to each part. The house is in two parts. To the left is a section with a single casement window on the first floor. The ground floor is largely obscured by a neighboring building. Most of the ground-floor openings are paired with a four-panel door to its left, except for a casement window on the extreme right. The section to the right is smaller and features a range of three-light windows. These windows have block mullions to the first floor and wedged heads with an incised keystone to the ground floor. The entrance to the left side has a round arch and a six-panel door. The house is part of a group of buildings clustered around a crossroads.
