Description

Hug Bridge is a road bridge over the River Dane, built in the early 19th century, and constructed from red ashlar sandstone. It features one broad segmental arch with a plain rectangular band backing the voussoirs. Originally, the bridge was half its current width, but it has since been expanded into two connected structures of identical design, secured together with rods and circular plates made of cast iron. The south abutment has buttresses that end in plain semi-circular pilasters that support the parapets. There are also two large, low buttresses on the east side of the abutment.
